Ecosystem restoration aims to recover the biodiversity and vital services that healthy ecosystems provide, securing a sustainable future for both people and nature. Ecosystem restoration is often used as a way to address societal needs, such as improving water quality through watershed restoration or reducing coastal erosion via dune restoration. Due to the societal benefits, restoration practitioners are more accustomed to working with the public sector, where restoration is understood as a long, complex, socioecological process.
